Two students who died in the recent tragic incident in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their killer carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person detained in connection in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.
She served as vice-president of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow online, remarking: “Words cannot express. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”
The Second Victim
The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.
Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.
What Happened
Nine more persons were wounded in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.
“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”
Public Fear
Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our public”.
