The esteemed football figure has stated that he is avoiding a return to football management, explaining that it would be difficult to duplicate the special mission he encountered as head of the Three Lions.

Southgate indicated his aim to focus his energy toward engaging the next generation and countering what he labeled a widespread pessimistic outlook presently prevalent in the country.

Pursuing Different Paths Outside of Coaching

During a broadcast discussion, he was prompted regarding talk linking him with available jobs in the English football and other leagues.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he answered. “It will be tough to match that experience. After nearly four decades in the game, I’m now exploring new fields where I can contribute positively.”

Dedication to Role Models

Leading up to the release of his new title, his new work on leadership, Southgate stated that he is “very passionate” about setting examples for teenagers, drawing on experiences from his period as head coach of the national side from 2016 and 2024, as well as his role as a father.

The leader believes that his journey leading the national team, during which the team evolved from being widely disliked to greatly admired, holds general lessons.

“At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he said. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Raising Children and Influencing Youth

Reflecting on his role as a parent, the coach remarked: “You want to give your kids the best possible start, but there is a point when they don’t want to listen to parents any more. I experienced that in my house in the same way everybody else will … but I do think this is an important space for us.”

He went on: “There’s a negative narrative around our country at the moment and we’ve got to give young people hope, we’ve got to give them guidance. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.”

Unity Over Conflict

Southgate stressed that “what brings the nation together outweighs what pulls it apart” but that the cultural focus often emphasizes division.

“It’s understandable why people are disaffected,” he said. “Economically lots of places are in tough situations now and that’s going to prompt desires for change. But I have seen the ability to unite the country. I saw during Covid people doing shopping for the neighbours and that’s when we as a nation are at our best, when we’ve been pushed into a corner and come out and shown resilience.”

The manager’s new release, titled Dear England, is scheduled to provide additional perspectives on guidance and country pride drawn from his notable time in football.
