The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds assisted locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award among a few organizations, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," she told outlets.

Previously, they gave their funds to the youth organization that supported their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year the group gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected two local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in the city and the other in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
