Pixar has released the teaser for its upcoming animated feature, The Hoppers Project, and it presents a concept that is equally unusual and entertaining.
Plot Summary
Hoppers revolves around Mabel Tanaka (played by Piper Curda), a teenage nature-lover who develops the skill to talk to animals after experimenting with some Avatar-inspired technology developed by one of her college professors.
According to one scientist, ‘The traditional approaches to study animals just failed,” explains one of the scientists who created the consciousness-transfer technology.
How The Invention Functions
Called “Hoppers,” the technology essentially works similar to the neural link system seen in James Cameron's Avatar movies, with a single small difference: Rather than awakening as a giant navy-colored extraterrestrial, Mabel's mind is transferred into a robotic animal body. Specifically, a robotic beaver-body.
Conflict and Cast
Much like Avatar's main character Jake, Mabel soon ends up becoming overly involved with the denizens of the animal kingdom, unintentionally sparking an creature revolt spearheaded by a majestic monarch butterfly (Meryl Streep) and the leader of the beavers (Bobby Moynihan), who are set to “defeat the human race.”
During a key moment, villain Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) is trapped in his car by a pair of beavers and a reptile, who then go on to intimidate him using his phone's speech synthesis capability.
Premiere Date
Hoppers debuts in theaters on the sixth of March.
