England midfielder Jordan Henderson reveals he has encountered "difficult moments" since departing from Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and acknowledges he might "taken different decisions".

The experienced player was widely criticized for exiting Liverpool in 2023 to sign with Al-Ettifaq in a nation where same-sex relationships are criminalized.

Henderson had formerly been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and apologized for letting down or upsetting anyone in the LGBTQ+ community when he left Saudi Arabia to move to Ajax half a year after.

International Career and Reflections

Henderson was omitted from Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but has come back to the Premier League with Brentford and the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't believe it was the cause why I missed the Euros," Henderson stated. "While I was in Saudi I believe I was in each gathering prior to the Euros."

"Timing, with the situation in looking back, yes - possibly I would have made different decisions."

"However at the moment that's how I felt and the decision I made was for various reasons and only I know them reasons."

Emotional Struggles

"Honestly speaking, over the past two years I have had some tough moments. It was similar to a break-up when I left Liverpool."

"Certainly I'm not perfect and I've made poor choices in the past. Certainly I will have during my career."

"But all I've ever attempted to do is the right thing."

International Career

Henderson has gained 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to face Wales and Latvia this week and believes he still has plenty to contribute on the pitch.

"The most important people are the manager, the technical staff and the players and what they feel," said Henderson.

"Inquire with them what they think, if I am a motivator when I am here. I don't think one of the finest managers in Europe would be choosing me just to do that."
